In the two handed backhand fundamentals videos
we have talked about after contact, extending out in the direction that you hitting during your follow through
And one the problems I often see
is that players will make contact, they extend out,
but then they elbow will bend too soon
and that bring the arm and the rocket acrros there body to the other side too soon.
So in other words they arent extending out as far they should.
Behind me we have got my two handed backhand and Franks two handed backhand, split screen.
And what you gonna see is that from contact we both extend out in to the court
and well in to our follow through,
our arms are virtually straight,
we really extend it out in to the court.
and its not until the ball is way off our strings,
that we bend our elbows and bring our rockets around to the other side of our body’s.
Let’s take a slightly different view of the two handed backhand.
This is my two handed backhand from the side
and what you gonna see is that right before contact, right here,
I established an arm position, my hitting arm position,
and I am going to keep this position through contact. So I hit and I drive throught the ball,
my arm position stays the same and looks like i am almost reaching in to the court
So the key to extending out after you make contact is to keep the same position you had, when you make contact
you keep that arm position,
you extend out in to the court,
Lets watch it one more time.
So I have established arm position, I make contact, I follow through, I have the same arm position
and then its not until about here, the ball is well of my strings,
and my hitting hand, my right hand in this case, is about shoulder level
and its now when I finally bend my elbow and bring the rocket around to the other side of my body.
So again the key to having the corect follow through and really extending out
is keeping that same arm position you have prior to and add contact well in to your follow through.
