First step of the sliced backhand is the pivot and the shoulder turn.
Coming out of the split step,
pivot it with the outside foot, transfer the weight to that foot and at the same time turn your shoulders.
This is also how you start to take the rocket back,
just like on the top spin forehand or backhand,
the shoulder turn begins to bring the rocket back and not the arms.
What you will notice when I pivot it and turn my shoulders
is that I am using my arms to angle the rocket head up,
but again thats different then me using my arms to take the rocket back.
Now lets go to the front view
and this is close up, what you gonna see is that when I pivot it and turn my shoulders,
I also change my grip to the continental grip,
which is the grip you wanna have when you hit sliced backhand.
The way I do that is by relaxing my hitting hand, which is my left hand since I am a lefty.
and I use my other hand to rotate the rocket around until I get to the continental grip
and then I regrip the rocket.
This happens, again when you pivot it and turn your shoulders,
so as your body turn sideways change your grip.
Coming out of his split step, the very first thing Oliver does
is that he pivot it with his outside foot, he begins transfer his weight to that foot
and he turns his shoulders sideways.
And again this is how he starts to bring his rocket back.
Now unfortunately I can’t show you his grip change,
because he knew he is getting a sliced backhand.
So he already has the continental grip.
If we switch to the sideview.
He also has his rocket angled up when he is in the ready position
and again thats because he knew he was getting a sliced backhand,
but if he didnt the rocket would be probalby lower.
So would have to angle up and switch his grip as he turn sideways.
