The fourth step of the sliced backhand is the forward swing to contact.
Having step forward in to the court, I swing forward to my contact point
and what you will notice when I swing
is that not much is going on other then my arm and my rocket moving to my contact point,
which is about waist high, maybe a little bit out in front of my body.
Now when I swing what I wanna highlight is specially first is that this is now a downward swing
So its a little bit different then the topspin backhand and topspin forehand.
I am swinging down on the ball, because I wanna put backspin on it.
Also when I swing, when the rocket is behind me, my elbow is bend,
but when I swing my elbow now straightens out.
From the front what you also see is that when the rocket is behind me I have the L relationship
the relationship between my rocket and my forearm stays pretty much the same.
When I swing forward I am out at my contact point, now its maybe closer to a V,
but the relationship is still pretty much intact.
and finally my strings are either facing the net or maybe a little bit open when I make contact with the tennis ball
and again that will put backspin on the tennis ball.
Having stept forward in to the tennis court,
now Oliver is gonna swing, again down at the ball, he is gonna swing down
and make contact a little bit out in front of his body
and at his contact, you can see here, the strings are slightly open.
So the combination of his open rocket face and swinging down on the ball
its gonna put a backspin on the tennis ball
Lets go back to when the rocket is behind his head
and again you will see that the elbows are bend now,
but as he swings, the arms straightens out.
Lets take a look at that from the front view for a different perspective.
Again the elbows are bend, but it straightens out as he swings
and its totally straight at contact.
The other thing I wanna highlight is that
when he had that elbow relationship when the rocket was behind his head,
now its more of a V shape, but its still more or less the same relationship.
So there is not much going on in terms of the wrists and the forearm, when he swings forward.
