Titulek 1 One of the keys to an effective forehand is having the correct hitting arm position at contact.
We've got a shot of Frank here. This is him at contact and what you're gonna see about his arm position is that elbow is bent and this wrist laid back and this arm position here is commonly called The Double Bend and that phrase was coined by John XXXXX Now, what Frank's gonna do is if we rewind it to the completion of his preparation weight's is on the back foot, shoulder sideways, racket's all the way back he drops the racket down and as he begins his forehand swing he gets set in the double bend, he sets that arm position with the elbow bent and the wrist laid back he is going to keep this arm position here through contact, he's gonna make contact which he does right here, and into his follow through he still has that same hitting arm position and I can't stress this enough once the racket drops down he sets that arm position and then his racket and his arm don't move, the relationship stays the same and from this position as he swings forward he is swinging at the shoulder the racket and the arm are swinging around as one piece.
This is critically important to master because a lot of club level players don't get to the double bend here.
They swing from the elbow, they use wrist, and again, what you wanna do like Frank has done here is establish that hitting arm position and then swing forward racket arm move forward as a unit to contact and then through contact.
One other point I wanna highlight is that there is some flexibility in terms of how much bend you can get in your elbow when you establish your hitting arm position.
To my right we got Frank, and then right here we've got Oliver we're gonna play these guys forward throught their contact points and what you're gonna see is that Frank has much more bend in his elbow than Oliver does and that's fine. Again, the key is to establish the hitting arm position and keep that position to contact What you're gonna see with Frank here again, he's got really bent elbow Some players nowadays have virtually straight arm they have the wrist laid back like Frank and Oliver do but again, the arm is pretty much straight.
There are advantages to a straight arm there's advantages to a bent arm, we're not gonna get into a detail about what those advantages and disatvantages are in this video But again, the key is to establish the hitting arm position as you swing forward to contact and you keep it at and through contact
