The second step of the kick serve progressions
is to add the follow through to the swing and pronation
we've worked on in the previous video
Now, one of the keys to this step, just like in the previous step
is when you add the follow through like I'm doing here
you wanna do everything in a nice, easy motion
you really wanna work the technique
and you dont' want to try and hit the tennis ball too hard.
You can see that I'm not really hitting the ball that hard
I'm just doing things really slowly, making sure my technique is correct.
Now, in terms of the mechanics of the follow through
just like in the serve progression section of the website
when I follow through, I continue to pronate
and I point the tennis racket down at the court as I follow through
and the relationship between my racket and my hitting arm and my body
kind of look like an upside down "U".
Now, there are some differences in terms of the kick serve follow through
because I'm swinging up and across the ball as oppose to through it
my follow through is going to be in a slightly different direction
If I was hitting a flat serve at the camera
I would follow through at the camera
but if I hit a kick serve at the camera I would now follow through to the side
because I was swinging in a different direction
so that creates a gap between my racket, my arm and my body
If we watch this motion again into the follow through, if we freeze it
there is a noticeable gap between my tennis racket, my arm and my body
again, because I was swinging in a different direction
If I was hitting a flat serve in this instance
you probably would not be able to see my racket or my arm
because I would be following through into the court as oppose to off to my side.
