How the Arm Moves from the Racket Drop to Con

Let's talk a little bit about how the arm moves from the racket drop up to your contact point.
Behind me I'm shadowing the motion, again from the racket drop.
What happens first is that my arm swings up towards the tennis ball. I'm swinging up on edge with the tennis racket but I"m not pronating or using any other part of my body except for my arm at this point.
So my arm gets to here where now I've got an "L" relationship between the racket and my arm.
From this position, this is when you see the pronation so now I pronate a little bit to get to my contact point but again, if we rewind it the arm starts to swing and when my arm straightens out now I pronate to get to my contact point.
Behind me we've got Frank's serve from above I wanna go through the various steps of the serve how his arms moves and then there is also another point I want to hightlight.
From his racket drop here, what you'll see as he starts to swing with his arm is that he actually supinates a little bit.
So he twists the racket back and you can see the strings here and what this allows him to do is pronate more.
That's a higher level tactic, a lot of pros with big serves will supinate when they begin to swing up so that they can pronate more through their serve and you can see Frank's doing that here and when he played on tour his serve was batting around 130 mph Now, from this position he's going to begin to pronate and now his racket's on edge with his arm totally straight Again, the pronation maybe begins a little bit earlier if you supinated more From here now that his arm's straight he pronates and his wrist will release up again, because he is swinging up and that's not something he is actively focusing on The wrist will just realease, he'll reach up to his contact point given how he was swinging before and then he completes his pronation and his swing he makes contact with the tennis ball and that completes the upward swing to his contact point.
I wanna briefly and quickly clarify something about the pronation during my swing up to the tennis ball. When I swing up and get to this position, the "L" position if I only pronate, this happens. I'm pronating and my racket is staying horizontal to the court.
What's also happening when I swing up is that my wrist is releasing up So, I swing up, get the "L" and then I pronate and I also reach up So, my wrist is kind of moving like if I was hammering something into a wall so I have this motion here, the wrist is releasing up.
But practically speaking when you're serving it's not really something you should focus on.
If you're swinging up at the tennis ball and you keep your arm pretty lose this release and reaching up motion should happen on its own.
So, you just need to focus on the pronation and the racket should come up on its own if you were swingin up and at the tennis ball.
But I did wanted to clarify that point because again, technically speaking pronation from this point is all that happens.
