Trophy Pose to Racket Drop
Titulek 1 In the fourth video of the serve section we've talked about getting to something called the trophy pose by timing your lower and upper body preparation so they complete at the same time. So here is a shot of me serving. And from this stance I'm gonna complete my lower and upper body preparation So, here I go, and in the trophy pose here my tossing arm is straight up, my racket and my hitting arm are in an "L" my knees are fully bent, and I have the weight equally distributed on each foot The reason we taught timing the trophy pose like this is because from here it's now easy to get to the racket drop.
From here I have to do three thing to get to the racket drop: I have to drop the racket down behind my back get the elbow up, drop my tossing arm down and then fully push off my legs so that they're straight when I'm in the racket drop right here.
So, if we go back to the trophy pose, again, because we've timed the preparation so it completes at the same time now, we only have to do those three things at the same time I don't want to time anything differently I just have to do them at the same time here we go and I'm in the racket drop.
I wanna make it clear that you don't have to prepare the way we've taught it.
You don't have to time your lower and upper body so they finish at the same time We think it's easy to learn so that's why we taught it but it's not the most important thing.
Most important thing you wanna focus on is getting to the correct racket drop.
If you prepare in a way that's little bit different but it lets you get there that's fine Behind me we've got Andy Roddick and John Isner in their respective trophy poses. You'll notice that they look little bit different Andy's got his racket kind of angled diagonally his tossing arm is over his head he's got his knees bent more than John Isner does Isner's racket is pointed more or less straight up his tossing arm is going into the court and again, his knees are not as bent as Andy's.
But if we now switch to them in their racket drops what you'll notice is that their body positions are the same.
That's the most important point. Again, their preparation looked little bit different but they are now in the same position when they're in the racket drop.
So, regardless of what you're doing to prepare you just need to make sure that you get to that racket drop.
We're gonna start a little slide show and look at the racket drops of some other pros we'll bring in Marat Safin, why don't we take a look at Tim Henman also and these guys both have identical looking racket drops as well.
So again, to reitarate the preparation, the point of preparation is to allow you to get to the correct racket drop.
You don't have to time it like we suggest it, we think it's easy but if you've got something that works that's fine.
