The sixth step of the serve progressions is to add the follow through
to the motions we've been working on in the previous videos.
Now, we're gonna start by shadowing the follow through
To begin, you can start with the tennis racket on your shoulder
like I've done here and you use all the mechanics
we've talked about before to get to your contact point
and then from here to follow through
you're gonna continue to pronate
and you're gonna point the tennis racket down at the court.
Now, if we watch this motion from the side perspective
what you'll see from contact is that when I continue to pronate and
point the racket down at the court, if we freeze it here
my tennis racket, my hitting arm and body form an upside down "U" shape
and that's key. You wanna get to this position.
Now, once you've mastered the shadowing you can actully try and hit the ball.
The key when you're trying to tackle the follow through
is to do just everything you did up to contact the same
and then follow through nice and easy.
So, if we watch me hit the tennis ball starting in the "L" position
everything else is the same, all the mechanics are the same
and then I just follow through nice and slow.
Again, just like everything we did in the previous videos
you really wanna work the technique by doing it about as slow as you can
so you make sure you master the motion.
If we watch it again, when I hit and follow through
if you focus on the tennis ball it's gonna bounce about 3 times before it gets to the baseline
again, because I'm not trying to hit hard, I"m just trying to focus on the technique I need
to master these various steps.
